International Patent Fees Simulator Guide

A complete walkthrough of the International Patent Cost Simulator. Each numbered marker below points to the exact area of the interface to click.

  1. 1

Set the filing date and initial filing country or office

In the 'Assumptions' panel (Filing strategy tab), pick the filing month/year and the office of first filing (US, FR, EP, CN, JP, PCT…). The rest of the calendar (priority year, PCT 30-month deadline, national phases) is derived from this date.

  2. 2

    Set the applicant entity status

Standard / Small entity–SME / Micro. Applicable USPTO and other-office reductions are automatically applied where the office publishes an official reduction. Eligibility criteria for the selected office are shown just below the selector.

  3. 3

Pick the continuation route: PCT, EP, EP Unitary

The three checkboxes are independent. EP alone = direct EP (Paris). PCT + EP = Euro-PCT. PCT + EP Unitary = Euro-PCT then Unitary Patent. Question marks (?) beside each option explain the resulting scenario.

Add national extensions and European countries

Open 'National extensions' to add offices outside EP (US, CN, JP, KR, IN, CUSTOM via world map). Below, 'European countries selected' lists the EP validation states (FR, DE, GB, IT, ES…). Country flags help identify each jurisdiction.
